About the position

The main function of a Data Center Technician is to monitor software to process business, scientific, engineering, and other data according to operating instructions. The position includes various levels of technicians, with responsibilities ranging from basic troubleshooting to leading teams. The role requires physical audits of datacenter assets and the handling of network cables as part of a datacenter decommission. Technicians will follow procedures for preparing, installing, performing diagnostics, troubleshooting, replacing, and/or decommissioning equipment with guidance from Datacenter Technician Leads.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor the system for equipment failure or errors in performance
  • Respond to program error messages by finding and correcting problems or terminating the program
  • Help programmers and systems analysts test and debug new programs
  • Operate spreadsheet programs and other types of software to load and manipulate data and to produce reports
  • Remove network cables as part of a datacenter decommission
  • Run/Label/Stage Power & Networking Cables
  • Prepare, stage, set up, and perform basic startups and shutdowns for hardware following written instructions, checklists, guides, and standard procedures

Requirements

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent
  • Basic knowledge of computer hardware, servers, and components
  • Basic understanding of how to use Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Excel, Word)
  • 4+ years of DC experience required
  • Verbal and written communication skills, problem solving skills, customer service and interpersonal skills
  • Basic ability to work independently and manage one’s time

Nice-to-haves

  • Associate's degree in computer programming or equivalent training preferred
