About the position

On MetLife's Global Technology and Operations (GTO) team, the Data Governance Program Manager plays a crucial role in shaping the future of data governance at MetLife. The MetLife Data Governance Office (MDGO) is dedicated to implementing an enterprise-wide model for data governance, ensuring consistency in data usage and fostering confidence in data-driven analytics and decision-making. This position requires a candidate with a proven track record in designing and implementing large-scale data governance programs globally. The ideal candidate will possess a solid foundation in hands-on Data Governance (DG) and Data Quality (DQ) practices, along with a deep understanding of the complexities involved in managing end-to-end data programs. The role demands a balance of technical expertise and program management skills, focusing on both offensive and defensive data governance strategies. Key responsibilities include managing engagement with data governance programs, collaborating with business partners to maintain standards and best practices, and supporting data governance tooling projects. The Program Manager will also interact with various stakeholders, including technical staff and senior business partners, to ensure alignment and effective implementation of data governance initiatives. This position offers the opportunity to work with cutting-edge cloud technologies and engage with multiple concurrent teams and projects, making a significant impact on MetLife's data governance landscape.

Responsibilities

  • Manage engagement with data governance programs to create rhythm for ongoing support, maturity, and metrics reporting.
  • Work with the Data Governance team and business partners to research, evaluate, document, maintain standards, and data governance best practices.
  • Collate requirements for projects from the perspective of the Data Governance team and participate in overall project implementation.
  • Perform consultative role in the assessment of policy and standards alignment, data inventories for scoped application, data content management, DQ rules, access management, data security, and data risk.
  • Support data governance tooling project, business metadata management, and documentation.
  • Support data governance working group and data council engagement.
  • Interact with business analysts and functional analysts in requirements gathering and implementation.
  • Collaborate with the extended project team on compiling proposals including high-level technical solution, estimate, and project plan.
  • Provide technical support to project teams throughout project lifecycle around technology platforms, solution design, security, profiling, performance tuning, etc.

Requirements

  • 8+ years' experience in enterprise-wide implementation of Data Governance, Data Quality or Data Management programs.
  • 3+ years of experience supporting Data Governance Council or Data Management Committees.
  • Demonstrated experience in setting up Data Governance processes in either financial or insurance company setting.
  • Strong project management skills with experience working on complex large-scale, multi-team programs in agile development methodologies.
  • Strong program management presentation and reporting skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical content to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Experience in Data Governance Program deliverables, Executive level presentation, and Data modelling, performance testing and tuning.
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field.
