About the position

As a Data Governance Risk & Compliance Data Leader at BNY, you will play a pivotal role in establishing a robust Data Governance framework and driving data quality across the organization. This position is integral to the Data Engineering team, where you will lead a team of data professionals dedicated to enhancing the quality of critical data assets. Your influence will extend throughout the enterprise, as you will be accountable for the enterprise data quality process, ensuring that it aligns with the company's strategic goals and operational needs. You will also be responsible for developing a resource and technology plan to support this process, ensuring that the necessary tools and systems are in place to monitor and improve data quality effectively. In this role, you will oversee the data stewardship program, ensuring the integrity and governance of critical data assets within the Risk and Finance organization. You will lead a team of data stewards, defining policies and processes that promote data management sustainability and excellence. Collaboration will be key, as you will work closely with business units, data owners, and custodians to identify critical data assets, establish data quality requirements, and define metrics and KPIs to measure success. Your responsibilities will also include establishing data quality monitoring processes and tools to detect and report on data quality issues. You will lead the resolution of these issues, working cross-functionally to identify root causes and implement corrective actions. Additionally, you will develop and maintain data lineage documentation to support governance, regulatory compliance, and data lineage analysis activities. As a subject matter expert, you will provide guidance on data stewardship best practices and methodologies, ensuring alignment with enterprise data management policies and standards.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of data professionals to establish a robust Data Governance framework.
  • Drive data quality initiatives across BNY Mellon.
  • Oversee the data stewardship program ensuring the quality, integrity, and governance of critical data assets across Risk and Finance.
  • Define data stewardship policies and processes, collaborating with stakeholders to drive data management sustainability and excellence.
  • Establish clear guidelines for data stewardship activities and workflows.
  • Collaborate with business units, data owners, and custodians to identify critical data assets and define data quality requirements.
  • Establish data quality metrics and KPIs to measure success.
  • Implement data quality monitoring processes and tools to detect and report on data quality issues.
  • Lead the resolution of data quality issues, working cross-functionally to identify root causes and implement corrective actions.
  • Develop and maintain data lineage documentation to support governance and compliance activities.

Requirements

  • 5-10 years of total work experience with at least 3-5 years in a management role preferred.
  • Hands-on experience in Data and Metadata Management from concept to implementation.
  • Strong stakeholder management and people skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple competing priorities under pressure.
  • Familiarity with Agile methodology and experience in scrums such as backlog refinement and sprint planning.
  • Strong understanding of data governance principles and data quality management concepts.
  • Experience with regulatory requirements such as BCBS 239 and GDPR.
  • Proficiency in data governance tooling and technologies, data profiling, data cleansing, and remediation techniques.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
