About the position

The Data Governance Specialist at City National Bank plays a crucial role in ensuring the successful execution of the data governance program across various business areas. This position involves implementing data control measures and governance activities while collaborating closely with business data stewards, data owners, and IT teams. The specialist will assist in the development and execution of the Data Governance Strategy, coordinating with operational and reporting data stewards to create data controls, identify measurement definitions, and manage these through dashboards. In this role, the Data Governance Specialist will maintain the enterprise data policy, ensuring compliance for critical data and reports. Ongoing communication with data stewards is essential to address critical data issues promptly. The specialist will work collaboratively with data stewards, custodians, and report developers to ensure consistent use of data definitions, authorized data sources, and calculations. Additionally, the role requires enlisting business unit support to take ownership of their data quality and definitions. The specialist will also prioritize and resolve data sourcing, business rules, data aggregation, distribution, and consumption in collaboration with Data Stewards, Architecture, and Information Technology. Responsibilities include defining and maintaining data definitions, descriptions, set values, quality rules, and calculations in the business glossary, as well as establishing programs to monitor and measure data governance adoption. The role involves maintaining an accurate enterprise critical report library and documenting data governance activities, including logs of issues and resolutions. The Data Governance Specialist will serve as a liaison between business and functional areas and technology, ensuring that data-related business requirements are clearly defined and understood. Furthermore, the specialist will produce data governance dashboards regularly and manage documentation and remediation of key data issues, executing a reliable second-line-of-defense process through documented processes and controls.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the development and execution of the Data Governance Strategy.
  • Coordinate with operational and reporting data stewards to create data controls and identify measurement definitions.
  • Maintain enterprise data policy for governing data and measure compliance for critical data and reports.
  • Communicate with data stewards to ensure timely remediation of critical data issues.
  • Collaborate with data stewards, custodians, and report developers for consistent data definitions and authorized data sources.
  • Enlist business unit support for ownership of data quality and definitions.
  • Prioritize and resolve data sourcing, business rules, data aggregation, distribution, and consumption with Data Stewards and IT.
  • Define and maintain data definitions, descriptions, set values, quality rules, and calculations in the business glossary.
  • Establish programs to monitor and measure data governance adoption and achievements.
  • Maintain an accurate enterprise critical report library with associated reporting metadata.
  • Document and maintain data governance activities, logs, and resolutions.
  • Educate data stewards, data owners, and custodians on governance roles and responsibilities.
  • Serve as a liaison between business and technology for data-related requirements.
  • Produce data governance dashboards on a recurring basis.
  • Manage documentation and remediation of key data issues.
  • Execute a reliable second-line-of-defense process via documented processes and controls.

Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in data governance function and operations.
  • Minimum 5 years of project management experience.
  • Minimum 5 years of consultancy and facilitation skills.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Information Systems or Business Administration.
  • Master's Degree in a related field is strongly desired.
  • Prefer 5 years of banking experience, preferably in regulatory reporting or credit.
  • Knowledge of information access and delivery methods, analytics applications, and data sourcing methods.
  • Understanding of data warehouse, ETL, data cleansing, and architecture.
  • Strong understanding of FR Y-14M and FR Y-14Q CCAR reporting preferred.
  • Experience with CCAR reporting and/or credit risk analytics preferred.
  • Experience collaborating with reporting, operations, and technology teams.
  • Strong critical thinking ability and problem resolution skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal/written communication skills, and strong project management skills.
