About the position

Torch Technologies is seeking a Data Scientist to support USSPACECOM; the position requires an individual possessing a wide range of skills and demonstrated experience; collecting, interpreting, and analyzing data using various analytical methods and statistical techniques. The individual will work with combatant command staff and stakeholders to conduct strategic analysis, strategic and operational assessments, to develop combatant command strategies, policies, procedures, and frameworks. The Individual will: * Determine what question, if answered would present the most value to USSPACECOM. * Develop the most valuable data product for data analytics. * Develop high-quality models, techniques and tools to solving USSPACECOM most vexing problems. * Research and develop statistical learning models for data analysis. * Collaborate with combatant command stakeholders to understand combatant command needs and devise possible solutions. * Keep up-to-date with latest technology trends. * Communicate results and ideas to senior leader key decision makers. * Implement new statistical or other mathematical methodologies as needed for specific models or analysis. * Optimize joint development efforts through appropriate database use and project design.

Requirements

  • Master's in Computer Science or a related field and 2+ years of experience
  • Experience supporting USSPACECOM, AFSPACE, NAVSPACE, MARFORSPACE, or SMDC/ARSPACE operations and/or exercises
  • Experience working on classified networks and interfacing with military staffs at the operational and strategic level
  • Advanced skills in data mining and statistical analysis
  • Skills developing correlative data models that support descriptive, predictive and prescriptive analytics
  • Ability to understand various data structures and common methods in data transformation
  • Experience developing in Python, R and SQL in support of big data analytics, machine learning and NLP, Neural Networks, and Deep Learning analytics
  • Expertise in Cloud technology
  • Experience with CI/CD
  • Implemented DevSecOps controls (DoD CIO & AF CSO)
  • Proficient in data security management
  • Competency in Agile Development
  • Ability to communicate complex data in a simple, actionable way
  • Ability to visualize data in the most effective way possible for a given project or study
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; negotiate complex issues; and maintain good working relations
  • Ability to work independently and with team members from different backgrounds
  • A current DoD Top Secret/SCI security clearance is required to start.

Nice-to-haves

  • Possess previous Space experience at operational/theater level (e.g. Combatant Command, Joint/Combined Task Force, Component)
  • Machine learning experience and/or Artificial Intelligence experience
  • Cloud employment experience
  • Experience with open platform (Kubernetes/Istio), microservice/service mesh architectures, and leverage event-driven behavior across the entire portfolio.
