About the position

SmartCop is seeking a Database Administrator to join their team! As a Database Administrator, you will be responsible for managing and maintaining our database systems to ensure optimal performance, security, and reliability. You will work closely with our customers and internal teams to solve complex technical issues and provide exceptional support. This role involves partnering with public safety agencies and first responders to ensure their data needs are met efficiently and securely.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and maintain database systems, including replication, triggers, jobs, and more.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve technical problems related to database performance, security, and availability.
  • Develop and implement database solutions to meet customer needs and business requirements.
  • Create and maintain interfaces between disparate databases to ensure seamless data integration.
  • Perform data migrations and ensure data integrity during the process.
  • Monitor database performance and optimize queries for efficiency.
  • Partner with development teams to design and implement database schemas, stored procedures (SPS), and other database objects.
  • Ensure database security and compliance with industry standards and regulations.
  • Provide technical support and training to customers and internal teams.
  • Work with public safety agencies and first responders to know and address their unique data requirements.

Requirements

  • Proven experience as a Database Administrator or similar role.
  • Excellent knowledge of database management systems (DBMS) and SQL.
  • Experience with database replication, triggers, jobs, and data migrations.
  • Proficient in troubleshooting and resolving technical database issues.
  • Familiarity with stored procedures (SPS) packages and creating/maintaining database interfaces.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Effective communication and customer service skills.
  • Ability to work autonomously and as part of a team.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (preferred).

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with NoSQL databases (e.g., MongoDB, Cassandra) is a plus.
  • Knowledge of database security best practices.
  • Familiarity with cloud database services (e.g., AWS RDS, Azure SQL Database).
  • Experience with database monitoring tools (e.g., Nagios, SolarWinds).
  • Familiarity with scripting languages (e.g., Python, Bash) for automation tasks.
  • Knowledge of Agile methodologies and DevOps practices.
