About the position

The Database Administrator I position at Elevance Health is a full-time role that operates in a hybrid model, requiring candidates to live within 50 miles of designated Elevance Health PulsePoint locations, including Meridian, ID; Columbus, GA; or Houston, TX. The primary responsibility of the Database Administrator is to support database development and maintenance tasks, ensuring the integrity and performance of the company's databases. This role involves building, testing, and supporting database structures based on detailed designs, as well as providing ongoing support in production environments. In this position, the Database Administrator will be tasked with designing databases that comply with established database strategies, performing rigorous testing to track and correct defects, and providing support during system implementations. The role also includes determining database requirements for various projects, reviewing SQL code for optimization, and managing user access and database security. Additionally, the Database Administrator will be expected to provide 24x7 on-call support for both production and non-production databases, ensuring that any issues are promptly addressed to maintain operational continuity. The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field, along with at least one year of experience in information systems or database administration. Candidates with relevant internships or a combination of education and experience will also be considered. Preferred skills include knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server, experience with database monitoring, backup and recovery processes, and familiarity with tools such as SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS), PowerShell, and VMware. Responsibilities

  • Build, test, and support database development for the company.

  • Support system implementation processes.

  • Provide 24x7 on-call support for production and non-production databases.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in information systems and/or database administration or related experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server and SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS).
  • Experience with database monitoring, backup, and recovery processes.
  • Familiarity with PowerShell and/or VMware.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with database performance tuning.
  • Knowledge of additional database management systems.
