About the position

The Database Administrator V (MongoDB) position at eBay involves managing and supporting MongoDB clusters that serve critical eBay applications. The role requires a strong understanding of MongoDB architecture, including replica sets, sharded clusters, and data distribution. The candidate will be responsible for database design, deployment, maintenance, upgrade, monitoring, backup and restore, and patch management. Additionally, the role includes performance tuning and optimization of MongoDB databases, enhancing security using X509 and TLS authentication, and working with Kubernetes platforms. The position also requires collaboration with application teams to address incidents and support a Mongo migration project.

Responsibilities

  • Support eBay's Mongo clusters which serve critical eBay applications.
  • Resolve all security vulnerabilities, including MongoDB server and OS patching.
  • Monitor eBay's Mongo clusters to identify potential issues and avoid incidents.
  • Develop tools necessary to migrate data from Mongo to PostGres.
  • Work with the application team to address incidents.
  • Participate in rotating 24x7 on-call support.
  • Be available off-hours occasionally to meet and work with engineers in China.

Requirements

  • Strong understanding of MongoDB architecture, including replica sets and sharded clusters.
  • Proficient in MongoDB database performance tuning and optimization techniques.
  • Hands-on experience with MongoDB security enhancement using X509 and TLS authentication.
  • Extensive experience in designing, implementing, and maintaining applications on Kubernetes platforms.
  • Knowledge of Kubernetes concepts, like pods, services, deployments, and stateful sets.
  • Experience with container runtimes like Docker.
  • Administration experience with MySQL and Sqlite.
  • Minimum of three years experience with programming languages (Python, SQL, Perl, Shell).
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Kubernetes/Docker experience - build and maintain images.
  • Java experience.
  • Understanding of clusters in MySQL.
  • Cloud experience - Google, AWS, etc.
  • Strong coding experience.

Benefits
