The Database Administrator will be responsible for managing and maintaining the database systems for the State of Georgia. This role requires a strong background in database administration, particularly with DB2 LUW, and involves planning, documenting, and executing upgrades and migrations. The successful candidate will set up new database environments and develop moderate to complex SQL statements for data migration as part of the ETL process. Additionally, the Database Administrator will support application developers by designing, implementing, and testing database changes that are essential for business applications. The role also includes assisting application developers in coding efficient SQL statements, reviewing these statements for performance, and making recommendations for indexing to optimize database performance. The Database Administrator will design and plan upgrade strategies, coordinating with system administrators and developers to ensure smooth transitions. This includes creating detailed upgrade plans that encompass checklists, milestones, complete checkouts, and fallback procedures. Furthermore, the Database Administrator will maintain multiple DB2 LUW environments, including Development, QA, Training, and Production. They will also support other Database Administrators and Systems Administrators during the patching of operating systems and database systems. Documentation is a key aspect of this role, as the Database Administrator will document entity types and relationships using Entity Relationship Diagrams (ERD) with Erwin. The position may require working during non-business hours, including weekends and holidays, as needed.
