About the position

The University of Pennsylvania is seeking a Database Developer to join Li-San Wang's lab and the Penn Neurodegeneration Genomics Center. This role focuses on contributing to neurodegeneration bioinformatics research by developing and maintaining databases that manage phenotypes, genotypes, and related data. The developer will also contribute to the NIAGADS cloud commons and genomics research software development.

Responsibilities

  • Develop databases for managing individual- and project-level phenotypes/genotypes, consents, and analysis progress.
  • Contribute to the development of the NIAGADS cloud commons.
  • Develop new features and maintain the NIAGADS genomics database as a searchable annotation resource.
  • Contribute to the development and testing of genomics research software and resources at Wang Lab.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, bioinformatics, or related fields.
  • 2-3 years of experience in relevant fields or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Skills and expertise with relational databases (PostgreSQL/MySQL) and SQL programming.

Nice-to-haves

  • Familiarity with R, Python, SAS, C/C++, Gen3, or web development.
  • Experience with NoSQL databases, integrating web and databases, and/or genomics/genetics data management.
