About the position

The Database Manager will utilize their knowledge and experience to provide leadership and technical expertise for development, management, and administration of electronic databases related to environmental chemistry. Additional duties include providing support for the planning, execution, and reporting of environmental projects. Excellent data management, data interpretation, strategic thinking, and logical reasoning skills are integral to this role. Both program-driven and deadline-driven assignments are assigned to this role so the Database Manager must be able to set priorities, take ownership of projects, work efficiently, communicate with interdisciplinary teams, and provide a consistent level of high quality in a high-pressure environment.

Responsibilities

  • Define, organize, implement, and enforce project data management needs and requirements
  • Ensure proper functioning of data management software (Earthsoft EQuIS) and oversee user administration
  • Oversee submission of project data to contractually required Client databases (e.g. FUDSChem, ERPIMS)
  • Establish standards and processes and help define tools to facilitate data collection, management and reporting
  • Evaluate and implement new data collection, analysis, and reporting tools to expand services to internal project teams and clients
  • Work with project staff to identify project data management needs and requirements in support of project objectives and field operations
  • Work with other disciplines including chemistry and GIS to integrate data sources
  • Train database users on proper data collection, handling, electronic validation, and reporting practices
  • Provide technical support for database users
  • Support environmental investigations and assessments in accordance with State and Federal regulatory guidelines and as directed by Project Management staff
  • Adhere to schedule and financial objectives, controlling time and expenditures to achieve project goals
  • Participate and lead in creating an effective team dynamic
  • Be a technical liaison for Clients
  • Lead a proactive safety culture
  • Work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner
  • Perform other duties as directed

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemistry, Environmental Studies, or other related discipline required
  • 7+ years of experience working on environmental projects with analytical chemistry
  • Knowledge of relational database systems and Structured Query Language (SQL)
  • Advanced experience with Earthsoft Environmental Quality Information Systems (EQuIS) including EDD development, custom reporting features, Enterprise Dashboard development, and DQM
  • Valid state driver's license and qualified to operate a vehicle under the conditions of the Company's Driving Policy
  • Ability to pass drug and background screening

Nice-to-haves

  • Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office Word, Excel, and Access
  • Experience with mobile data collection using programs such as EQuIS Collect, Survey 123, Collector, etc.
  • Experience with programming platforms such as Microsoft SQL Server, Visual Basic for Applications, Python, R or similar
  • Experience with designing and automating digital workflows
  • Knowledge of the practical application of environmental science and technology
  • Ability to use scientific rules and methods to solve problems, and logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems
  • Ability to effectively lead projects and work with multi-disciplined teams
  • Ability to proactively identify tasks to be completed, be self-directed, and accountable for results
  • Ability to communicate effectively & collaborate productively
  • Ability to demonstrate positional expertise
  • Ability to understand the business and finance needs
