About the position

The Database Specialist will manage the child fatality database, specifically the National Fatality Review Case Reporting System (NFR-CRS), which local teams are required to use starting July 1, 2025. This role involves collaboration with various entities to ensure data-informed efforts to prevent child fatalities, including training local teams, ensuring data quality, and managing a centralized data system for analysis and reporting. The position is integral to the Office on Child Fatality Prevention, focusing on data collection methods to inform prevention efforts.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the child fatality database, NFR-CRS, ensuring compliance with legislative requirements.
  • Develop and administer training for local teams on the use of NFR-CRS.
  • Ensure quality and completeness of data collection and monitor input into NFR-CRS.
  • Assist in data entry and preparation for local team reviews.
  • Conduct data analyses and create visualizations for reports and publications.
  • Respond to stakeholder requests and develop partnerships for data maximization.
  • Coordinate with local teams and other partners to track implementation of recommendations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field from an accredited institution.
  • Two years of related experience in data collection, quality, and analysis.
  • Experience with statistical programs such as Excel, SAS, or SPSS.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple responsibilities effectively.
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
