About The Position

The Camp Counselor at YMCA of the North is responsible for creating a fun and safe environment for children during summer camp. This role involves planning and leading various activities, ensuring the safety and well-being of campers, and serving as a positive role model. The counselor will engage with children and families from diverse backgrounds, fostering a love for learning and play while upholding the YMCA's core values.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Adult and Pediatric First Aid & CPR/AED certification (can be obtained upon hire).
  • Education or experience in camp, youth programs, recreation, or related fields.
  • Ability to lead, plan, organize, and implement program activities for all age levels.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to work as a team member with minimal supervision.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with children in a camp or recreational setting.
  • Creative skills for leading arts and crafts or games.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the direction, supervision, and organization of campers in their group.
  • Apply Social Emotional Learning concepts and youth development principles in working with campers.
  • Communicate and work with groups of all ages and skill levels, providing necessary instruction.
  • Ensure campers are properly supervised at all times and implement safety guidelines.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of program activities for campers.
  • Lead or assist with teaching activities and organize a variety of group programs each week.
  • Maintain high standards for health and mental health in all activities for campers.
  • Provide daily care for each camper and respond appropriately to emergencies.
  • Maintain accurate program records including incident reports and daily attendance.
  • Be a role model to campers and staff, following safety and security rules.
  • Represent the camp positively when interacting with families and community members.
