About the position

The Gourmet, a premier grocery and deli establishment, is seeking a dedicated Deli Service Specialist to join our vibrant team. This role is essential in providing exceptional service and maintaining the high standards of our deli operations. As a Deli Service Specialist, you will be the face of our deli, ensuring that every customer feels welcomed and valued. You will be responsible for preparing a variety of deli items, including grilling, slicing, and sandwich making, while also operating the cash register efficiently and accurately. Your contributions will directly impact the customer experience and the overall success of our deli operations. In addition to food preparation and customer service, you will assist in inventory management by restocking shelves as needed. This includes conducting end-of-day preparation and cleaning to maintain a pristine work environment. The ideal candidate will thrive in a fast-paced environment, demonstrating strong multitasking abilities and a commitment to excellence in service. Your role will not only involve direct interaction with customers but also require a keen attention to detail in food preparation and cleanliness standards.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver outstanding customer service, ensuring a welcoming atmosphere for all patrons.
  • Operate the cash register (POS) efficiently and accurately.
  • Prepare a variety of deli items, including grilling, slicing, and sandwich making.
  • Assist in inventory management by restocking shelves as needed.
  • Conduct end-of-day preparation and cleaning to maintain a pristine work environment.

Requirements

  • Minimum of a few years of experience in a deli, grocery, or food retail setting.
  • Strong customer service skills; candidates who are shy may find this role challenging.
  • Ability to multitask effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Food preparation certification is a plus.
  • Must be eligible to work in the US.

Nice-to-haves

  • Food handling certification is advantageous.
  • Experience with coffee and espresso machines is a plus, though training will be provided.
  • Familiarity with the Brooklyn area is a significant advantage.
