About the position

The Dementia Specialist (Operations & Policy Analyst 3) position at the Oregon Department of Human Services focuses on enhancing service equity and dementia care initiatives. The role involves coordinating activities related to the Oregon State Plan for Alzheimer's Disease and Related Dementias, facilitating multi-agency collaborations, and participating in legislative processes to advocate for person-centered care for individuals with dementia and their caregivers.

Responsibilities

  • Expand initiatives related to service equity and dementia.
  • Develop and sustain relationships with communities of color and other diverse populations.
  • Coordinate and implement activities related to the Oregon State Plan for Alzheimer's Disease and Related Dementias (SPADO).
  • Identify, convene, facilitate, lead and participate in multi-agency and statewide collaborations to promote quality in dementia care.
  • Liaise between APD, Oregon Health Authority (OHA), and AAA.
  • Participate in legislative and rule-making processes, including developing policy option packages and reviewing legislative bills.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert and review policies impacting individuals with dementia and their caregivers.
  • Advocate for person-centered care and services for people living with dementia.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor's Degree in Business or Public Administration, Behavioral or Social Sciences, Finance, Political Science, or any degree demonstrating the capacity for the knowledge and skills.
  • Four years of professional-level evaluative, analytical, and planning work experience.
  • Experience working with individuals with dementia in a professional capacity equivalent to seven years.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of and experience delivering innovative, person-centered dementia care and services.
  • Familiarity with current literature related to dementia care and services.
  • Experience developing, researching, and writing policy related to older adults and people with disabilities.
  • Demonstrated experience working with diverse groups and guiding collaborative processes.
  • Understanding of Oregon's long-term services and support systems (LTSS).
  • Medicaid LTSS experience and knowledge.
