Dental Assistant (EF)(Open Continuous)

About the position

This position requires candidates to have sufficient experience and/or education to perform the duties associated with the role. Experience can include both paid and unpaid work, including volunteer work through National Service programs. Candidates must clearly identify their duties and responsibilities in their resume, including the total number of hours worked per week. The position is governed by Public Law 97-35, which mandates that individuals administering radiological procedures meet specific credentialing standards. Candidates must have completed an accredited educational program and be certified as radiographers. The job also requires a current I.H.S. or State dental radiological health and safety certification. Minimum qualifications vary by grade level, with specific experience and educational requirements outlined for GS-05 and GS-06 levels.

Responsibilities

• Perform restoration of teeth after preparation.
• Provide routine prophylaxis and placement of sealants and varnish.
• Set up proper instruments and provide chairside assistance.
• Expose and process digital oral x-rays.
• Perform Class IV restorations of teeth after preparation.
• Cement stainless steel crowns.
• Carve and polish cusp protected alloy.

Requirements

• At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-04 for GS-05 applicants.
• Completion of a full 4-year course of study in dental assistant or dental hygiene program.
• Combination of experience and education may be considered.
• At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-05 for GS-06 applicants.
• Completion of acceptable coursework or training for expanded function dental assistants.

Nice-to-haves

• Courses in dental hygiene or dental assistant programs accredited by the American Dental Association.
• Continuing education courses in expanded functions for dental assistants.
