About the position

This position is for a Dental Assistant (Expanded Function) within the Federal service, specifically in locations such as Lawrence, KS, Anadarko, OK, Clinton, OK, El Reno, OK, Lawton, OK, Pawnee, OK, Watonga, OK, and Wewoka, OK. The role requires candidates to have sufficient experience and/or education to perform the duties associated with the position. Experience can include both paid and unpaid work, including volunteer service through National Service programs. Candidates must clearly identify their duties and responsibilities in their resume, including the total number of hours worked per week. The position requires adherence to Public Law 97-35, which mandates that individuals administering radiological procedures meet specific credentialing standards. This includes having completed an accredited educational program and being certified as radiographers. The job also has minimum qualifications that vary by grade level, with specific experience and educational requirements outlined for GS-05 and GS-06 levels.

Responsibilities

  • Perform restoration of teeth after preparation.
  • Provide routine prophylaxis and placement of sealants and varnish.
  • Set up proper instruments and provide chairside assistance.
  • Expose and process digital oral x-rays.
  • Perform Class IV restorations of teeth after preparation.
  • Cement stainless steel crowns.
  • Carve and polish any type of cusp protected alloy.

Requirements

  • Must have a current I.H.S. or State dental radiological health and safety certification.
  • For GS-05: At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-04 level or a full 4-year course of study in dental assistant or dental hygiene program.
  • For GS-06: At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-05 level.
  • Completion of acceptable coursework or training specifically designed for intra-oral procedures.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in a dental hygiene or dental assistant program accredited by the American Dental Association.
  • Completion of U.S. Army's Dental Therapy Assistant Training Program.
  • Continuing education courses in expanded functions for dental assistants.
