About The Position

The Dental Assistant (Expanded Function) position at the Whiteriver Service Unit involves performing a variety of reversible intra-oral procedures under the supervision of a Dental Officer. This full-time role is essential in providing dental care and support to patients, ensuring they receive appropriate treatment and education regarding oral hygiene. The position requires interaction with patients, scheduling appointments, and maintaining accurate medical records.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
  • Must have completed a 2-year dental assistant program or a 2-year dental hygiene program accredited by the American Dental Association.
  • Must have at least 6 months of specialized experience in dental assisting or related fields.
  • Must meet credentialing standards in 42 CFR Part 75 for administering radiologic procedures.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in making diagnostic dental impressions and pouring, trimming, and labeling models.
  • Experience in assessing patients' oral hygiene practices and providing education on proper oral hygiene aids.

Responsibilities

  • Receives and schedules patients for treatment in the dental clinic and operating room.
  • Ascertains chief complaints and informs the dental team.
  • Obtains and records medical and dental history of patients; routes patients for medical tests if required.
  • Records treatment and examination information on patient records; prepares consent forms.
  • Obtains and records blood pressures and pulse when requested by the dentist.
  • Provides dental prophylaxis and instructs patients on the use of oral hygiene aids.
  • Provides fluoride treatment and places dental sealants.
  • Correctly exposes, processes, and mounts both intra and extra-oral dental radiographs.
  • Takes preliminary impressions and modifies impression trays as needed; pours and trims models from impressions.
  • Constructs base plates, bite rims, and custom impression trays.
