About the position

This position is for a Dental Assistant within the Federal service, with locations available in Fort Hall, ID; Salem, OR; Warm Springs, OR; Nespelem, WA; Omak, WA; and Toppenish, WA. The role requires candidates to demonstrate sufficient experience and/or education to perform the duties associated with the position. Experience can include both paid and unpaid work, including volunteer service through National Service programs. Applicants must clearly outline their duties and responsibilities in their resumes, including the total number of hours worked per week. The position adheres to Public Law 97-35, which mandates that individuals administering radiologic procedures meet specific credentialing standards. Candidates must have completed an accredited educational program and be certified as radiographers in their field. Specialized experience is required for GS-4 and above, with specific educational qualifications for GS-5 and GS-6 levels.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in dental procedures under the supervision of a dentist.
  • Perform advanced duties such as restorative fillings and expanded functions.
  • Monitor nitrous oxide and take x-rays.
  • Conduct coronal polishing and apply sealants.
  • Place and carve restoratives and take final impressions under supervision.

Requirements

  • Must have completed an educational program accredited by the Department of Education.
  • Must be certified as a radiographer in the field.
  • For GS-5: One year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-4 or a full 4-year course of study in dental assistant or dental hygiene.
  • For GS-6: One year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-5.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in specialized dentistry or dental assistant expanded functions.
  • Completion of courses in radiation physics, biology, health, safety, and protection.
