Dental Assistant (Open Continuous)

About the position

The position is for a Dental Officer in the Federal service, specifically within the IHS (Indian Health Service). Applicants must have a Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) or Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree from an accredited institution. The role involves evaluating, preventing, diagnosing, and treating diseases, injuries, and disorders of the oral cavity and maxillofacial area. The position has a positive education requirement, and candidates must submit transcripts or a detailed education history. Licensure is also required, and applicants must have passed the National Board of Dental Surgery (NBDE). The position is open from November 14, 2024, to September 30, 2025.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate, prevent, diagnose, and treat diseases, injuries, and disorders of the oral cavity and maxillofacial area.
• Perform dental procedures such as removal of decay, filling cavities, straightening, extracting, and repairing teeth.
• Treat gum diseases and perform corrective surgery.
• Make measurements/models for dentures to replace missing teeth.
• Administer anesthetics and write prescriptions.

Requirements

• Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) or Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree from an accredited institution.
• Current, full, and unrestricted license to practice dentistry.
• Passed the National Board of Dental Surgery (NBDE).
• Ability to distinguish shades of color.
• For GS-12 level, completion of a 2-year residency program in dentistry or equivalent experience.

• Experience in making radiographic examinations of the oral cavity.
• Experience in diagnosing pathological or irregular conditions.
• Experience in performing simple and complex restoration of cavities.
• Experience in performing single and uncomplicated multiple extractions of teeth.
