Dental Assistant (Open Continuous)

About the position

The position is for a Dental Officer in the Federal service, specifically under the Dental Officer Series 0680. To qualify, applicants must provide a resume that details sufficient experience and/or education to perform the duties of the position. This includes both paid and unpaid experience, such as volunteer work through National Service programs. Applicants must clearly identify their duties and responsibilities in each position held, including the total number of hours worked per week. A positive education requirement is in place, necessitating the submission of transcripts or a detailed education history on the resume. Official transcripts are required after tentative selection and prior to issuing an official job offer.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate, prevent, diagnose, and treat diseases, injuries, and disorders of the oral cavity and maxillofacial area.
• Perform dental procedures such as the removal of decay, filling cavities, straightening, extracting, and repairing teeth.
• Treat gum diseases and perform corrective surgery.
• Make measurements/models for dentures to replace missing teeth.
• Administer anesthetics and write prescriptions.

Requirements

• Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) or Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree from an ADA-approved school.
• Passed the National Board of Dental Surgery (NBDE) and possess a current, full, and unrestricted license to practice dentistry.
• Ability to distinguish shades of color.
• For GS-12 level, completion of a 2-year residency program in dentistry or equivalent experience.

• Experience in making radiographic examinations of the oral cavity.
• Experience in diagnosing pathological or irregular conditions.
• Experience in performing simple and complex restoration of cavities.
• Experience in performing single and uncomplicated multiple extractions of teeth.
