About the position

The position is for a Dental Officer in the Federal service, specifically under the Dental Officer Series 0680. To qualify, applicants must provide a resume that details sufficient experience and/or education to perform the duties of the position. This includes both paid and unpaid experience, such as volunteer work through National Service programs. Applicants must clearly identify their duties and responsibilities in each position held, including the total number of hours worked per week. A positive education requirement is in place, necessitating the submission of transcripts or a detailed education history on the resume. Official transcripts are required after tentative selection and prior to issuing an official job offer. The position requires a Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) or Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree from an accredited institution. Applicants must also have passed the National Board of Dental Surgery (NBDE) and possess a current, unrestricted license to practice dentistry. Medical requirements include the ability to distinguish shades of color. Experience qualifying for the GS-11 grade level involves the evaluation, prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of oral diseases and disorders. For GS-12 level consideration, applicants must have completed a 2-year residency program in dentistry or demonstrate at least 2 years of equivalent experience.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate, prevent, diagnose, and treat diseases, injuries, and disorders of the oral cavity and maxillofacial area.
  • Perform dental procedures such as the removal of decay, filling cavities, straightening, extracting, and repairing teeth.
  • Treat gum diseases and perform corrective surgery.
  • Make measurements/models for dentures to replace missing teeth.
  • Administer anesthetics and write prescriptions.
  • Conduct radiographic examinations of the oral cavity and diagnose pathological conditions.

Requirements

  • Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) or Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree from an accredited institution.
  • Passed the National Board of Dental Surgery (NBDE).
  • Current, full, and unrestricted license to practice dentistry.
  • Ability to distinguish shades of color.
  • Experience in evaluating, preventing, diagnosing, and treating oral diseases.

Nice-to-haves

  • Completion of a 2-year residency program in dentistry or related field.
  • At least 2 years of equivalent experience at the GS-11 level.
