About the position

The position is for a Dental Officer in the Federal service, specifically under the Dental Officer Series 0680. Applicants must provide a resume that clearly states their experience and/or education relevant to the duties of the position. This includes both paid and unpaid experiences, such as volunteer work through National Service programs. A positive education requirement is in place, necessitating the submission of transcripts or a detailed education history. Official transcripts will be required after tentative selection. The position requires a Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) or Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree from an accredited institution. Applicants must also have passed the National Board of Dental Surgery and possess a current, unrestricted license to practice dentistry. Medical requirements include the ability to distinguish shades of color. The position qualifies for the GS-11 grade level, with additional qualifications for GS-12.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate, prevent, diagnose, and treat diseases, injuries, and disorders of the oral cavity and maxillofacial area.
  • Perform dental procedures such as removal of decay, filling cavities, straightening, extracting, and repairing teeth.
  • Treat gum diseases and perform corrective surgery.
  • Make measurements/models for dentures to replace missing teeth.
  • Administer anesthetics and write prescriptions.

Requirements

  • Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) or Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree from an accredited institution.
  • Passed the National Board of Dental Surgery.
  • Current, full, and unrestricted license to practice dentistry.
  • Ability to distinguish shades of color.

Nice-to-haves

  • Completion of a 2-year residency program in dentistry or related field.
  • At least 2 years of equivalent experience at the GS-11 level.
