About The Position

The Department Manager at H&M is responsible for supporting the store's sales and profit goals by delivering the best customer experience. This role involves managing a team, ensuring compliance with company standards, and actively participating in store operations. The Department Manager will focus on talent development, performance management, and maintaining a positive work environment while adhering to legal requirements and H&M policies.

Requirements

  • 1-2+ years of transferrable experience in a retail or management role.
  • Ability to lift in excess of 20 pounds.
  • Ability to coach and counsel staff on management techniques.
  • Ability to stand for long periods, bend, stretch, and engage in repetitive motions.
  • Ability to climb a ladder and use a step stool.
  • Open availability including evenings and weekends.
  • Basic computer skills such as browser navigation and data entry.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze and follow up on Sales & Profit KPIs for the department with Visual Merchandisers.
  • Secure actions to maximize selling and support Visual Merchandisers with necessary staffing.
  • Ensure store operations and H&M standards are followed through proper scheduling.
  • Plan and prioritize actions that impact selling and implement the Commercial Handbook.
  • Deliver H&M Customer Service standards through active coaching and leading by example.
  • Participate in executing store routines including delivery truck processing and price changes.
  • Prevent loss and ensure safety and security guidelines are followed in the department.
  • Provide input on allocation and replenishment to secure garment levels according to sales trends.
  • Manage recruitment, training, development, and succession planning for the team.
  • Evaluate and manage performance of team members, providing regular feedback and development plans.
  • Communicate business performance and training focuses to the store team through meetings.
  • Ensure health & safety, legal, and security issues are handled according to H&M standards.
  • Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with H&M policies and applicable laws.
  • Maintain overall store responsibility in the absence of the Store Manager.
  • Promote feedback and strengthen company culture within the team.
