About the position

The Deputy Clerk position in the Clerk of Superior Court office in Bertie County, NC, involves performing specialized clerical and administrative tasks within the legal system. The role requires interaction with the public, processing legal documents, maintaining case files, and providing information to various stakeholders. The Deputy Clerk plays a crucial role in ensuring the smooth operation of court proceedings and the management of case documentation.

Responsibilities

  • Process cash receipts.
  • Review, prepare, and process criminal and civil cases including misdemeanors, infractions, divorce, child custody, and juvenile cases.
  • Process cases, produce records, and maintain case files in the courtroom during court sessions.
  • Establish and maintain case files for adoptions, determinations of incompetency, foreclosures, motor vehicle liens, etc.
  • Provide sensitive information for juvenile casework to attorneys, Guardians ad Litem (GAL), the Department of Social Services (DSS), and the Department of Public Safety (DPS).
  • Administer estates of the deceased and explain procedures to family members and other authorized representatives.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 18 years of age.
  • Professional experience working in a courthouse or law office is preferred.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of NC general statutes and policies related to the local judicial district.
  • Experience with civil proceedings and the Civil Case Processing System (VCAP).
  • Familiarity with juvenile proceedings and Juvenile Case Tracking/Scheduling System (JWISE).
  • Experience with eWarrants and ACIS/Criminal Court Information System (CCIS).
