About the position

The position involves supervising juveniles and families referred to the Juvenile Office for issues related to child abuse/neglect, status offenses, and law violations. The role includes assessing risks and needs, formulating recommendations, and ensuring compliance with court-ordered services. The position requires collaboration with various agencies and may involve evening and weekend work.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise juveniles and families referred to the Juvenile Office.
  • Assess juveniles and families for risks and needs.
  • Formulate recommendations for services and ensure compliance with court orders.
  • Conduct interviews and assessments for child abuse/neglect and delinquency cases.
  • Complete criminal record checks on family members and potential placement providers.
  • Obtain records from other agencies such as schools and mental health providers.
  • Serve summonses and subpoenas as required.
  • Prepare written Social Investigations for court admission.
  • Testify in court regarding Social Investigations and recommendations.
  • Supervise juveniles on probation and children in foster care.
  • Conduct field work including home visits and visits to service providers.
  • Transport juveniles in work vehicles as needed.
  • Collaborate with outside agencies and attend meetings.
  • Ensure due process during police interrogations and observe Child Advocacy Center interviews.
  • Enter and update data in the juvenile information system.
  • Attend work-related trainings and conferences.
  • Perform on-call duties as necessary.
  • Meet regularly with the Unit Supervisor to discuss case management.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Sociology, Criminology/Criminal Justice, Psychology, Social Work, or related field from an accredited university.
  • 1-3 years of experience in the juvenile justice field or child welfare system preferred.
  • Considerable knowledge of local Court policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of Missouri statutes, particularly the Juvenile Code and Criminal Code.
  • Knowledge of Child Abuse/Neglect and Permanency Planning.
  • Knowledge of Supreme Court Rules of Practice and Procedure in Juvenile Court.
  • Computer skills in data entry, word processing, and form modification.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to oversee case management for juveniles and families.
  • Ability to advise on policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Ability to apply planning and coordinating principles.
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment for problem resolution.
