About the position

Zachry Nuclear Engineering, Inc. is seeking a Designer I, Electrical for a direct hire position in Stonington, CT or Charlotte, NC. The role involves assisting in the planning, design, and development of electrical drawings for various projects under the guidance of engineers. Responsibilities include conducting research for project criteria, providing field support, and preparing various electrical drawings such as wiring diagrams and schematics. The candidate will also be responsible for ensuring the accuracy of drawings and may need to participate in field walk downs to verify documentation and develop sketches for modifications.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the planning, design, and development of electrical drawings for various projects.
  • Conduct research to obtain detailed project and design criteria.
  • Provide field support including field verifications for retrofit applications and as-built documentation.
  • Prepare various electrical drawings including wiring diagrams, one-lines, and schematics.
  • Check drawings for accuracy including dimensions, spelling, and completeness.
  • Participate in field walk downs to obtain measurements and verify as-built documentation.
  • Communicate with project engineers and other disciplines to resolve design discrepancies.
  • Advise and assist drafting personnel in their assigned duties.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree in drafting, design, or engineering technology or equivalent experience in electrical and controls systems design.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in engineering drafting and familiarity with electrical design practices.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Demonstrated ability to direct drafting personnel on drawing assignments.
  • Proficient in AutoCAD and/or MicroStation CAD software packages.
  • Demonstrated technical knowledge of design practices, codes, and standards applicable to structural components.
  • Working knowledge of structural steel types and materials and mechanical design principles.
  • Effective time management skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of MicroStation (preferred) and/or AutoCAD is essential.
  • Recent plant modification package development and/or field experience on nuclear power plant projects is a plus.
  • Additional certifications and/or courses in basic electronics and/or electrical systems desired.
