About the position

As a Designer at Nordstrom Product Group (NPG), you will play a pivotal role in shaping the seasonal brand design for men's bottoms, specifically focusing on denim and woven materials. This hybrid position requires you to work in the Seattle office at least three days a week, allowing for collaboration with the design team while also providing flexibility. Your primary responsibility will be to own the concept and design for your assigned area, ensuring that it aligns with the overall brand design direction and meets the line plan needs. You will engage in continuous research to understand customer preferences, trends, and shifts in the competitive landscape, which will inform your design decisions. In your daily activities, you will support design leadership in building the seasonal brand design direction, actively participating in the selection of materials, fabrics, and trims. You will collaborate closely with the print team to bring textile applications to life, ensuring that all elements of your designs are cohesive and visually appealing. Additionally, you will partner with design leadership to curate visual tools that support the seasonal storytelling for your assignments, fostering strong relationships with cross-functional partners to promote a culture of innovation and continuous improvement. Your role will not only require creativity and design expertise but also strong communication skills to effectively convey your ideas and collaborate with others. You will be expected to manage your time efficiently, balancing multiple projects while maintaining a keen understanding of industry trends, particularly within the active space. Responsibilities

  • Support design leadership in building Seasonal Brand Design Direction for men's bottoms.
  • Conduct continuous research to understand customer preferences, trends, and competitive landscape shifts.
  • Own the concept and design for assigned projects, ensuring alignment with Brand Design Direction and line plan needs.
  • Research materials, select fabrics and trims, and collaborate with the print team for textile applications.
  • Partner with design leadership to color the line and curate visual tools for seasonal storytelling.
  • Build strong relationships with cross-functional partners to enhance collaboration and innovation.
  • Promote a culture of continuous improvement within the design team.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Design preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in the design industry.
  • Clear and effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build relationships.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (required) and MS Office suite.
  • Ability to hand-sketch and adapt to new technology and systems quickly.
  • Strong time management and multi-tasking skills.
  • Strong understanding of industry trends within the Active space.
