About the position

The Development Product Owner I for the P&C Insurance Communications Systems team at USAA plays a crucial role in representing the business on an agile team. This position involves understanding and communicating business needs, writing and refining user stories, prioritizing work, and guiding technical teams to deliver effective solutions. The role requires a strong grasp of Agile principles and the ability to work within various delivery methodologies to ensure business value is achieved.

Responsibilities

  • Work with business and Subject Matter Experts to understand business strategy and vision, writing and prioritizing user stories and features.
  • Own and maintain a prioritized work backlog for one or more Agile teams.
  • Review and accept output of IT and/or business development to ensure acceptance criteria are met.
  • Serve as a direct representative of the business with delivery teams, representing the customers' perspective throughout the product delivery cycle.
  • Participate in a cross-functional team to develop, execute, and release in alignment with program and product road maps.
  • Partner with sponsors and stakeholders to translate business requirements and understand needs, measures, and risks.
  • Assist with preparing the business for change and provide metrics for benefits, adoption, and risk.
  • Execute robust test plans including user acceptance testing and production validation.
  • Identify, measure, monitor, and control risks associated with business activities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or 4 years of related experience may be substituted in lieu of degree.
  • 4 years of experience in process improvement, project delivery, or business/requirements analysis.
  • Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office products, databases, and project management tools.
  • Experience with multiple technical software delivery methodologies (Agile, Waterfall).
  • Ability to analyze business requirements and identify opportunities to streamline processes.
  • Understanding of Process Engineering methodologies and Change Management practices.
  • Experience gathering business requirements and writing user stories.

Nice-to-haves

  • Extensive knowledge of P&C business and products.
  • Previous Product Owner experience in an Agile/SAFe environment.
  • Experience working on P&C Documents.
  • Experience leading multiple teams, including matrixed teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence key partners and decision makers.
