About the position

The Master Level Diesel Technician position at Ryder in Akron, OH, is a permanent full-time role focused on maintaining and repairing heavy-duty vehicles within the company's truck fleet. The technician will perform a variety of mechanical repairs, diagnostics, and preventive maintenance tasks, ensuring the fleet operates efficiently and safely. Responsibilities

  • Complete all OEM on-line diagnostic scan tool software courses as required by location fleet mix within 365 days.
  • Perform vehicle maintenance and repair duties including standard vehicle maintenance and preventive maintenance.
  • Diagnose and repair complex mechanical and electronic problems with minimal support, utilizing diagnostic computers/software when applicable.
  • Perform remote triage with RCRC and customers to determine the best solution to assist roadside breakdowns.
  • Instruct and advise other technicians regarding maintenance repair procedures and diagnostics.
  • Coach and mentor other level technicians.
  • Advise shop management and other technicians on shop repairs.
  • Utilize key functions of Shop Management System and electronic documentation available.
  • Work in accordance with all federal/provincial and corporate compliance guidelines (i.e., safety, DOT, MOT).
  • Perform facility maintenance duties as required.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Vocational or Technical Certification Post Secondary degree or Technical Certifications preferred.
  • Basic tools required.
  • Demonstrated aptitude and applied experience in mechanical repair of automotive gas or diesel engines.
  • Routine preventative maintenance experience including oil changes, brake and tire work.
  • Diagnostics and repairs experience including AC and electrical systems.
  • Advanced skilled level repairs including major engine repairs and diesel after treatment or automotive fuel injection repairs required.
  • Four (4) years or more relevant work experience preferred.
  • Valid Commercial Driver License (CDL) CLASS A preferred.
  • All other certification as required by location.

Nice-to-haves

  • ASE Certification in PM, Brakes, A/C, electrical, Electronics or ASE Master Mechanic preferred.
