About the position

The Technician II at FleetPride is a pivotal role within the organization, expected to have a comprehensive understanding of Preventative Maintenance applications. This position requires the technician to perform both basic and advanced adjustments, repairs, and component replacements with limited supervision. The Technician II will also engage in basic diagnostic operations to effectively identify vehicle system failures and recommend precise system repairs. This role is essential in ensuring that vehicles are maintained to the highest standards, contributing to the overall safety and efficiency of the fleet. In this position, the technician will examine vehicles to assess the extent of damage or malfunctions, providing customers with preventative maintenance solutions whenever appropriate. A key performance indicator for this role is maintaining an 80% productivity rate while preventing comebacks. The technician will be responsible for conducting inspections and preventative maintenance on vehicles and equipment, performing routine services such as oil changes, lubrications, and filter replacements. Additionally, the technician will repair, reline, replace, and adjust various brake systems, troubleshoot and repair suspension and electrical systems, and perform maintenance on fuel tanks and trailer hitches. The Technician II will also be involved in tandem alignment, front axle king pin and bushing repairs, and basic welding tasks. Utilizing machinery for repairs or fabrication of driveshafts is also part of the job. The technician must maintain a clean and organized workspace, ensuring safety and efficiency in all operations. This role is critical in supporting FleetPride's mission to provide top-notch service and expertise in the heavy-duty parts and service industry.

Responsibilities

  • Examine vehicles to determine extent of damage or malfunction(s).
  • Provide customers with preventative maintenance solutions whenever appropriate.
  • Maintain 80% productivity and prevent comebacks.
  • Perform inspections and preventative maintenance of vehicles and equipment.
  • Conduct routine and scheduled maintenance services such as oil changes, lubrications, and filter replacements.
  • Repair, reline, replace, and adjust brakes (air, hydraulic, electric, and brake accessories).
  • Test drive vehicles and test components using proper equipment.
  • Troubleshoot and repair suspension systems including leaf and coil spring systems, and Hendrickson walking beam type suspension systems.
  • Troubleshoot and repair electrical systems, exhaust systems, steering systems, air conditioning, PTOs, and custom exhaust systems.
  • Adjust, remove, and replace clutches and drivelines.
  • Troubleshoot and repair fuel tanks, fifth wheels, trailer hitches, pintle hooks, auxiliary axles, and frames.
  • Perform tandem alignment, front axle king pin, and bushing repairs.
  • Perform basic aluminum and steel wire welding.
  • Utilize machinery to repair or fabricate any driveshaft.
  • File, grind, sand, and smooth filled or repaired surfaces using power tools and hand tools.
  • Remove upholstery, accessories, electrical window and seat operating equipment, and trim to gain access to vehicle bodies and fenders.
  • Maintain a clean and organized workspace.

Requirements

  • Diesel Technology Associates degree.
  • 3+ years of experience with class 7 & 8 trucks.
  • Experience repairing 53' trailers.
  • Welding certification.
  • Airbrake certification.
  • Must provide hand tools, air tools, and toolbox.
  • Ability to maintain a perfect safety record.
  • Ability to lift 50lbs.
