About the position

Domtar, a leading manufacturer of paper, pulp, and packaging products, is seeking a Digital Communications Specialist to join its dynamic digital communications team in Fort Mill, SC. This hybrid role is pivotal in leveraging social media and other owned media to enhance the company's reputation, increase brand awareness, and drive progress towards both company and departmental goals. The Digital Communications Specialist will collaborate with team leaders and various departments to develop and implement an annual social media strategy that aligns with the company's objectives. In this role, the specialist will serve as the primary content creator and curator for organic social media activities, which includes managing visual design tasks such as creating graphics and short-form videos. They will oversee the social media editorial calendar for corporate brand accounts, ensuring timely scheduling and publication of content. The specialist will curate engaging social media feeds on key platforms like LinkedIn and Facebook, aiming to tell the company's story, inspire audiences, and reinforce its leadership position in the forest products industry. Additionally, the specialist will optimize the company's presence on social media channels, enhancing pages and content to grow brand awareness and support the company's reputation among key audiences. Responsibilities also include writing for the company blog and website, utilizing search engine optimization (SEO) strategies to bolster reputational goals, and monitoring conversations about the brand across social media and traditional media. The role involves leading the corporate social media employee advocacy program and serving as a backup for the department leader in issue management and crisis communication activities. Success will be measured by reporting on the effectiveness of digital communications content, campaigns, and platforms.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute the annual social media strategy and content needs in partnership with team leaders and other departments.
  • Create, curate, and manage written content for organic social media activities, including visual design tasks such as graphics and short-form videos.
  • Manage the social media editorial calendar for corporate brand accounts, scheduling and publishing content across platforms.
  • Curate balanced social media feeds on LinkedIn and Facebook that tell the company's story and build its reputation.
  • Optimize the company's presence on social media channels to grow brand awareness and support its reputation.
  • Write for the company blog and website, leveraging SEO practices to support reputational goals.
  • Monitor and listen to conversations about the brand in social media and traditional media.
  • Lead the corporate social media employee advocacy program.
  • Serve as the primary backup for issue management and crisis communication activities.
  • Report on the effectiveness of digital communications content, campaigns, and platforms.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or comparable experience in communications or a related field (business, marketing, graphic design, etc.).
  • 5 - 7 years of experience in social media content creation and coordination, corporate communications, or digital marketing communications in a corporate or agency environment.
  • Demonstrated experience in social media management, including content creation.
  • Excellent writing skills, particularly for short-form content.
  • Some digital graphic design and short-form video experience, with proficiency in Canva and some Adobe Creative Cloud applications.
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize, and meet tight deadlines as necessary.
  • Solid understanding of content SEO practices and creating accessible content for all users.
  • Some knowledge of content, website, and search metrics and analytics reporting.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience using social media management platforms such as Hootsuite or Sprout Social.
  • Familiarity with media monitoring/social listening platforms like Meltwater, Cision, or Talkwalker.
  • Knowledge of Google Tag Manager, Google Search Console, Yoast, or similar tools.
  • A working knowledge of the French language.
