About the position

The Direct Service Provider - Advocate position is designed to provide essential client and community-based services. This role is pivotal in supporting individuals who may be facing challenges related to domestic violence, human trafficking, child abuse, sexual assault, and other emergency assistance needs. The advocate will work closely with clients to ensure they receive the necessary support and resources to navigate their situations effectively. The position requires a strong commitment to client welfare and the ability to work collaboratively with various stakeholders, including other service providers and local agencies. In this role, the advocate will be responsible for maintaining accurate and timely records of client services, assisting in the development of program plans tailored to client and community needs, and participating in ongoing training and workshops to enhance their skills and knowledge. The advocate may also be required to operate a 24-hour crisis line during times of insufficient volunteer staffing, ensuring that clients have access to support whenever they need it. This position demands flexibility, as the advocate may be called upon to assist clients outside of regular working hours, including nights and weekends. The advocate will also play a crucial role in fostering cooperative relationships with other service providers and agencies, ensuring a comprehensive support network for clients. Adherence to the HRN Employee Handbook and completion of mandated ongoing in-service training to maintain certifications are also essential components of this position. Overall, the Direct Service Provider - Advocate is a vital role that requires dedication, compassion, and a strong understanding of the issues faced by vulnerable populations.

Responsibilities

  • Provide specific services to assigned clients.
  • Maintain timely, accurate data recording to document client services.
  • Assist with the development of client and/or community program plans.
  • Attend workshops, meetings, and trainings as determined.
  • Maintain up-to-date case records.
  • May be called out to assist a client, day or night, outside of the 8-5 workday.
  • Establish and maintain cooperative relations with other service providers and local agencies.
  • Adhere to the HRN Employee Handbook.
  • Complete mandated ongoing in-service training to maintain certifications.
  • Operate the 24-hour Crisis Line during periods of insufficient volunteer staffing, as assigned.
  • Perform other duties as assigned for agency growth and development.

Requirements

  • High school diploma required; associate degree preferred, preferably in sociology or psychology.
  • Strong background in criminal and civil justice arena with at least one year of experience in a related field.
  • Working knowledge of current issues regarding domestic violence, human trafficking, child abuse, sexual assault, family dynamics, and/or emergency assistance services.
  • Field-specific education and experience as a direct social service provider preferred.
  • Ability to work respectfully with adults and youth from various socio-economic backgrounds.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to work independently.
  • Knowledge of computer programs including proficiency with Outlook, Word, and Excel.
  • Domestic Violence Victim Advocate and Sexual Assault Victim Advocate Certification must be obtained within 6 months of hire; agency training provided.
  • Possess or obtain within 30 days of hire a valid California driver's license and current vehicle insurance.
  • Ability to obtain California Criminal and Child Abuse Index clearance.
