About the position

The Director, Community Finance - Capital Officer at Capital One plays a pivotal role in leading the Community Finance team, which is dedicated to originating debt and equity to support affordable housing development. This position is situated within the External Affairs division, which collaborates with various stakeholders to foster socioeconomic opportunities and advocate for an inclusive society. The Community Finance team has a strong track record, having provided over $7.19 billion in community development loans in 2022 alone, and has invested nearly $17 billion in affordable housing since its inception. The Director will be responsible for managing relationships with developers and industry stakeholders, marketing Capital One's products, and identifying opportunities that align with the company's strategic goals. In this role, the Director will lead a team focused on sourcing strategy-aligned multi-family housing development opportunities. The position requires a leader who is passionate about promoting socioeconomic mobility and enhancing the understanding of communities. The Director will be expected to collaborate with executive leaders and other key stakeholders to establish business goals, manage relationships, and ensure proper structuring and pricing of investments. The role also involves fostering an inclusive team environment, developing talent, and maintaining a strong focus on risk management and operational excellence. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in community development lending or investments, along with significant experience in client management and business development. They should be wired for collaboration, intellectually curious, and possess a strong point of view. The Director will be expected to innovate and find efficiencies in the application of data and technology to support business opportunities, while also staying informed about industry trends and participating in relevant workshops and conferences.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the Community Finance team in managing relationships with clients and industry stakeholders.
  • Gather market intelligence and understand Capital One's impact in local communities.
  • Collaborate with executive leaders to establish business goals and manage portfolio growth.
  • Originate and follow transactions through closing, working closely with Credit, Underwriting, and Loan Administration.
  • Attract, develop, and retain a diverse team engaged in sourcing strategy-aligned deals.
  • Foster an inclusive team environment of trust and collaboration.
  • Maintain overall responsibility for deal structure and economics.
  • Evaluate and contribute to the improvement of processes to drive scalable impact.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or military experience.
  • At least 8 years of experience in client management, business development, or financial services.
  • At least 3 years of experience with community development lending or investments.
  • At least 3 years of people leadership experience.

Nice-to-haves

  • MBA or Master's degree in Finance preferred.
  • 10+ years of affordable housing/community development/LIHTC experience.
  • 5+ years of people management experience.
  • 5+ years of market analysis experience.
