About the position

The Director of Employee Relations oversees and implements the processing, administration, and review of the performance evaluation system by ensuring employees receive comprehensive and complete evaluations in a timely manner to ultimately improve employee retention. The Director of Employee Relations will promote a positive working culture by supporting employees with ongoing needs, including employee morale issues, training needs, training tools and resources, employee relations issues, disciplinary issues, and by ongoing feedback and support to managers. The position is accountable directly to the Senior Director, Talent Management and supervises the Senior Employee Relations Specialist and Employee Relations Coordinator.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees the performance management system, including sending, tracking, and processing completed evaluations and performance based raises.
  • Initiates job description updates with the supervisor for evaluations where the 'job description updates' box is checked.
  • Reviews and approves performance raises.
  • Sends a monthly report of past due evaluations to supervisor and the VP of Talent Management.
  • Oversees the completion of the raise checklist ensuring all items are accurate and complete per the payroll deadlines.
  • Does not process raises for managers who have past due evaluations until these requirements are completed.
  • Reviews and approves all performance evaluations, providing thoughtful and constructive feedback.
  • Partners with supervisor to review all complex evaluations or evaluations involving disciplinary matters.
  • Conducts monthly Leadership Institute training on performance evaluations.
  • Provides oversight and guidance on employee relations issues.
  • Assists with employee relations issues and employee related concerns, including complaints and grievances.
  • Drafts, reviews, and approves disciplinary documentation.
  • Processes involuntary employee terminations and oversees voluntary terminations.
  • Conducts in-person exit interviews for all voluntary resignations.
  • Maintains knowledge of employment legislation and talent management standards.
  • Collaborates with supervisor to manage legal issues and claims.
  • Partners with supervisor and Director, Training and Culture to facilitate New Manager Training monthly.
  • Handles sensitive information with care and discretion.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience required.
  • A minimum of 5-7 years prior experience in Human Resources required.
  • 3+ years of supervisory experience; 5+ years preferred.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and complete in a timely and thorough manner.
  • Attention to detail and strong organization skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to think critically and provide constructive feedback.
  • Ability to work independently and ask for support as needed.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Working knowledge of MS Word, Outlook, and Excel.
  • Prior office/administrative experience.
  • Ability to handle sensitive information with care and discretion.
  • Ability to act responsibly, professionally, and use good judgment under pressure.
  • Ability to travel to other sites required.
