About the position

L3Harris Technologies is seeking a creative and problem-solving Director of Manufacturing to lead the Manufacturing Engineering team within the Integration Mission Systems segment. This role is pivotal in aligning the team to meet business needs while championing improvements in cost and quality through the adoption of standard best practices. The Director will be responsible for directing the development and implementation of manufacturing engineering activities in production areas to achieve production goals, safety, quality, cell efficiencies, continuous improvements, standard work, and cost objectives. The successful candidate will prioritize manufacturing engineering projects based on product introduction, equipment efficiency, and the launch of new equipment or processes. Additionally, they will plan and administer procedures and budgets, making capital and non-capital budgetary recommendations. The Director of Manufacturing will serve as an inspirational, business-oriented leader with a proven track record of developing best-in-class programs and initiatives for large, multi-million-dollar global organizations within the manufacturing function. A critical aspect of this role is the ability to effectively partner with a diverse range of stakeholder groups on manufacturing strategy and execution within a matrixed corporate context. The capability to collaborate and communicate effectively with various stakeholders is essential, as is a history of delivering results on behalf of a global organization. This position reports directly to the VP of Operations and leads a small team responsible for the manufacturing efforts for the segment. The Director will develop a standard approach for manufacturing governance to drive best-in-class processes and cost performance, identify and implement innovative data collection, analytics, automation, and advanced manufacturing processes across the enterprise. They will monitor site manufacturing performance by defining KPIs and setting up monthly and quarterly reviews, as well as advocate for continuous improvement and cost reduction with segment leadership.

Responsibilities

  • Develop a standard approach for manufacturing governance to drive best in class processes and cost performance.
  • Identify and implement innovative data collection, analytics, automation, and advanced manufacturing processes across the enterprise.
  • Monitor site manufacturing performance by defining KPI's and setting up monthly / quarterly reviews.
  • Develop next-generation manufacturing concepts and technology roadmap, including new technology benchmarking, evaluation, and deployment to meet the needs of the IMS product portfolio and strategy.
  • Initiate and promote strategic manufacturing engineering programs and monitor the effectiveness of these programs.
  • Advocate for continuous improvement and cost reduction with segment leadership.
  • Define and endorse optimal allocation of capital to maximize productivity gains.
  • Promote development projects and innovation initiatives to ensure consistent evaluation and documentation of processes, adequate configuration, and preventative maintenance of systems and equipment, and innovative direction to reduce cost and improve sustainability metrics.
  • Direct best in class manufacturing processes and performance while achieving best in class cost performance.
  • Lead the design for manufacturability process to ensure successful new product launches, partnering with program management, business development, and key stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in an engineering discipline with a minimum of 15 years of prior related experience, or a Graduate Degree with a minimum of 13 years of prior related experience, or in lieu of a degree, a minimum of 19 years of prior related experience.
  • 15 years of strong demonstrated experience and knowledge of Manufacturing engineering with a reputation in driving operational excellence and establishing programs, policies, and best practices.
  • Experience implementing Design for Manufacturing and assembly, automation, simulations, and robotics.

  • Capable of interacting with and reviewing multi-functional groups and developing management-level reports.
  • Ability to lead effective corrective action using disciplined problem-solving methods and statistical analysis.
  • Experience implementing Manufacturing 4.0 (Big data, Internet of things, Data management, autonomous systems, smart factory).
  • Acts as a change agent for the business, ensuring innovations and developments are led to successful implementation.
  • Effective leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills from executive to front line levels, with an ability to collaborate with others as well as motivate and manage a team with excellent consultative, influencing, and conflict management.
  • Embraces a strategic, proactive approach in supporting business area leaders with identifying, actively pursuing, and closing manufacturing issues affecting the business.
  • Experience working in a DoD environment.
  • Green Belt/Black Belt or other Six Sigma certification.
