About The Position

The Director of the Bowen Center for Public Affairs at Ball State University is responsible for overseeing all programs and activities of the Center, which focuses on civic engagement, public management training, and public policy research. The role involves budget administration, marketing, program development, fundraising, and community outreach, while also collaborating with the Ball State University Foundation and the Center's Board of Advisors. The Director is expected to be a creative leader who can implement innovative ideas to meet contemporary political and governance needs in Indiana.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in political science or a related field from an accredited university.
  • Experience in budget administration, personnel administration, fundraising, and marketing.
  • Demonstrated connections with state and local government officials, journalists, and alumni.
  • Authorization to work in the US without employer sponsorship.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee all Bowen Center programs and activities, including budget administration and oversight.
  • Develop and implement marketing strategies for the Center's initiatives.
  • Lead program development and fundraising efforts to support the Center's activities.
  • Engage in community outreach to promote the Center's mission and programs.
  • Collaborate with the Ball State University Foundation and the Center's Board of Advisors for support and guidance.
  • Promote available internship opportunities to students and departmental internship coordinators.
  • Act as the information clearinghouse for BSU departmental internship coordinators.
  • Assist in recruitment and placement of interns in appropriate positions.
  • Review daily activities of interns at the Statehouse and liaise with their employers.
  • Investigate fundraising opportunities to support student access to internships.
  • Prepare and administer a statewide public opinion poll on public policy issues.
  • Disseminate survey results and serve as media spokesperson for the findings.
  • Publicize the work of the Bowen Center and engage with the public through outreach events.
  • Communicate activities of the Center to the Board and work under their guidance.
