About the position

The Director of Design for Private Equity at Carta is a leadership role focused on creating and delivering innovative digital product experiences tailored to the private equity sector. This position involves leading a small team of designers, influencing product strategy, and driving high-impact design projects that address the complex needs of private equity clients. The ideal candidate will be a visionary leader who can communicate effectively with stakeholders and inspire their team while advocating for user-centered design principles.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, pitch, and defend product strategy and design direction to the Carta executive suite.
  • Lead teams to deeply understand user needs and drive alignment around solutions to core business problems by creating models, concept diagrams, workflow diagrams, and journey maps.
  • Be hands-on designing flows, sketches, prototypes, fostering a culture of leaders who ‘lead by doing’.
  • Work cross-functionally to drive implementation and adoption of your product.
  • Lead design reviews and mentor other designers and stakeholders to up-level their UI/UX design skills.
  • Contribute to building a strong human-centered design organization.

Requirements

  • 12+ years of product design experience, with at least 4 years focused on solving complex, enterprise SaaS challenges.
  • A strong portfolio of case studies that demonstrate a successful track record of human-centered design solutions that address strategic business problems.
  • Deep expertise in UI/UX craft; passion for visual design, interaction details, typography, and pixel-perfect deliverables.
  • Experience influencing cross-functional teams to adopt bold design solutions.
  • Exceptional communication and storytelling skills that allow you to convey the value of your design solutions.
  • Ability to work in a dynamic environment — balancing rigor and scrappiness.
  • High comfort level with ambiguity; openness to critique from other disciplines and curiosity to learn from a spectrum of perspectives.
  • Passion for mentoring designers and teaching about design craft and quality.
  • Experience actively managing designers at different stages of their careers.
  • A love of getting hands dirty and leading from the front.
