About the position

The Director of Finance and Administration (DFA) for the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology (Ob/Gyn) at Stanford Medicine is a key leadership role responsible for managing the department's finance and administrative operations. The DFA will work closely with the Chair of the department and other leadership to develop and implement strategic and operational plans that align with the department's vision and mission. This position requires a strong understanding of financial management, operational planning, and people management, as well as the ability to foster collaboration and innovation within the department. The DFA will oversee the annual budget process, ensure financial success, and represent the department in negotiations with hospital administration and other stakeholders. Additionally, the DFA will lead and develop staff, ensuring a culture of inclusion and belonging within the department.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the chair and leadership on strategic planning and projects.
  • Develop and communicate strategic and operational plans for the department.
  • Manage finances across all sources for the annual budget cycle.
  • Oversee the annual budget process in collaboration with the Associate Director of Finance.
  • Provide strategic advice on funds flow between SHC, SMCH, and the department.
  • Hire and retain staff, clarify roles and responsibilities, and ensure personal development.
  • Direct department operations and evaluate business processes for efficiency.
  • Represent the department on committees and collaborate with leadership on projects.

Requirements

  • Master's degree (MBA, Public Health, Health Care Informatics or related field) or equivalent experience.
  • Five years of progressively responsible managerial experience, including financial and budget preparation.
  • Three years of supervisory experience.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in leadership and management.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to lead through organizational changes.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with RVU based costing methodologies used in healthcare.
  • Experience managing NIH and NIS portfolios.
  • Experience with Pre-Award and Post Award management.
  • Experience administering or managing operations and finance.
