About the position

The Director of Finance and Operations at the Unitarian Universalists of Sarasota (UUSRQ) is responsible for overseeing the financial and operational functions of the church. This role involves managing financial reporting, resource development, administrative tasks, and property management, ensuring the smooth operation of the church's activities. The Director will supervise staff and volunteers, maintain financial integrity, and support the church's mission through effective management and strategic planning.

Responsibilities

  • Produce accurate financial reports at least monthly and interpret financial statements for congregational leaders.
  • Oversee the work of the Bookkeeper and ensure accuracy in financial records.
  • Prepare weekly check requests and organize bills to be paid.
  • Review and share information from the Fidelity Investment/Endowment Account with the bookkeeper.
  • Assist with collections count on Sundays and provide data for the UUSRQ Scorecard.
  • Support annual stewardship campaigns and maintain the Pledge database.
  • Develop and monitor the annual operating budget, presenting it at Town Hall and Annual Meeting.
  • Oversee administrative needs, including staffing and document management.
  • Supervise accurate records of membership and congregational involvement.
  • Ensure dependable IT support for operational needs and oversee communications and marketing efforts.
  • Monitor and arrange for maintenance and repair of church property, including managing outside contractors.
  • Oversee the church calendar and handle rentals to outside groups.

Requirements

  • Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree.
  • 5-10 years' experience in management of complex organizations, preferably in church or non-profit settings.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to supervise and lead.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and effectively with Board of Trustees and volunteer committees.
  • Proficiency with Windows-based computers and productivity software.

  • Knowledgeable about Social Media and Artificial Intelligence.
  • Knowledgeable about Accounting Systems and Rules.
  • Knowledgeable about payroll laws.
