About the position

Mercer University's College of Pharmacy is seeking a Director of Finance and Administration to join its team on the Atlanta, Georgia campus. This pivotal role involves being a key member of the Dean's administrative staff and Executive Committee, responsible for overseeing all financial matters related to the College's budget and financial reporting to both national and state agencies. The Director of Finance will play a strategic role in managing the financial assets of the College, ensuring that resources are allocated effectively to support the College's mission and objectives. Additionally, the Director will oversee the maintenance of the assigned building space and assets, ensuring that the physical environment supports the College's educational and research activities. The Director of Finance and Administration will primarily focus on the College of Pharmacy, with supplemental financial duties for the Georgia Baptist College of Nursing. This includes managing the budgeting process, financial reporting, and ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and standards. The role requires a strong understanding of the unique characteristics of operating within an academic environment or not-for-profit sector, as these contexts present distinct challenges and opportunities compared to general business environments. Attention to detail is crucial for accurate financial reporting and forecasting, and the ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, is essential for transmitting information accurately across various stakeholders. Responsibilities

  • Oversee all matters relating to the College's budget and financial reporting to national and state agencies.
  • Manage the financial assets of the College strategically.
  • Maintain the assigned building space and assets.
  • Handle supplemental financial duties for the Georgia Baptist College of Nursing.
  • Ensure compliance with financial regulations and standards.
  • Prepare and manage the budgeting process for the College.
  • Communicate financial information effectively to various stakeholders.
  • Collaborate across functions and levels within the University system.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in business, accounting, or a closely related field.
  • Five years of administrative management and financial analysis experience, including general accounting knowledge, budgeting, and purchasing.
  • OR a Master's degree and three years of related experience.
  • Valid driver's license and insurable by the university's carrier.
  • Computer literacy to use the University's FRS and Budget System and complete Excel spreadsheet analysis.
  • Knowledge of purchasing processes relevant to the College's instructional and research programs.
  • Familiarity with accounting and budgeting concepts for financial document processing.
  • Experience in an academic or not-for-profit environment.

Nice-to-haves

  • Prior experience in higher education or not-for-profit organizations is highly desirable.
