About the position

The Director of Finance for the University Revenue System & Business Services (RSBS) at the University of South Dakota is a pivotal role responsible for enhancing business and financial planning in alignment with the strategic goals of the University. This position entails leading financial and business operations, which include budgeting, accounting, revenue projections, and financial modeling for various business scenarios. The Director will provide leadership, oversight, and stewardship for all financial resources while promoting best practices in finance administration within the Revenue System and University Business Services. The scope of the RSBS encompasses critical areas such as Housing, the Student Center, the Wellness Center, and Auxiliary Services. Reporting to the AVP of Finance and Business Services, the Director of Finance will collaborate with university leadership to provide strategic advice, recommend, and implement financial and administrative objectives, policies, programs, and practices that ensure a robust financial structure for the University's Revenue System and Business Services. The Director will keep all relevant leadership and stakeholders informed about the current financial position of the University's Revenue System and Business Services and will work creatively to foster an environment of excellence through collaboration and innovation. In fulfilling these responsibilities, the Director is expected to continuously evaluate both short and long-term strategic financial objectives, produce forecasts, and model strategic choices and alternatives. The role involves advising on the financial implications of business activities, assessing the costs of strategic priorities, and exploring funding strategies that will support the growth of the University's Revenue System and Business Services. Additionally, the Director will be responsible for all reporting and compliance related to fiscal activities and will lead initiatives aimed at improving efficiencies in financial processes across the areas of financial oversight.

Responsibilities

  • Lead financial and business operations including budgeting, accounting, revenue projections, and financial modeling.
  • Provide leadership, oversight, and stewardship for all financial resources within the Revenue System and University Business Services.
  • Collaborate with university leadership to provide strategic advice and implement financial and administrative objectives.
  • Keep relevant leadership and stakeholders informed about the financial position of the University's Revenue System and Business Services.
  • Continuously evaluate short and long-term strategic financial objectives and produce forecasts.
  • Advise on the financial implications of business activities and costs of strategic priorities.
  • Explore funding strategies to support the growth of the University's Revenue System and Business Services.
  • Ensure compliance with all fiscal activity reporting and lead efficiencies in financial processes.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of progressive complex financial management/oversight experience.
  • Undergraduate degree in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, or related field required.
  • Graduate school degree preferred.
  • Financial planning experience in higher education is preferred.
  • CPA or MBA is preferred.
  • Experience working with Banner Finance is preferred.
  • Experience in a public institution university system is preferred.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in financial planning within higher education settings.
  • Possession of a CPA or MBA certification.
  • Familiarity with Banner Finance software.
