About the position

The Director of Finance at the American Printing House for the Blind (APH) plays a crucial role in overseeing the accounting cycle, producing financial reports, and ensuring compliance with financial practices. This position is responsible for managing accounts payable and receivable functions, analyzing financial transactions, and collaborating with various departments to enhance financial processes. The role supports APH's mission to empower individuals who are blind or low vision by ensuring the financial health of the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and direct accounts payable and accounts receivable functions and team members.
  • Manage vendor compliance responsibilities including new vendor forms and collecting W-9s.
  • Ensure accurate closure of ERP system submodules at month-end and run necessary reports.
  • Serve as primary backup for accounts payable and receivable.
  • Manage Fixed Assets in Sage and administer account activities for Federal Appropriation.
  • Develop strong working relationships with trustees across all states.
  • Research and identify posting issues with the general ledger and make necessary corrections.
  • Direct management of banking activities including ACH, Wires, and Credit Cards.
  • Work closely with team members to ensure correct costing information for operations costs.
  • Make recommendations for changes to enhance financial processes and prevent fraud.
  • Lead or participate in various teams throughout the organization.
  • Process monthly invoices and coordinate related business unit transactions.
  • Complete monthly account reconciliation for various accounts.
  • Work cross-functionally with all departments to ensure proper accounting of financial transactions.
  • Update and improve financial processes and procedures.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance.
  • 5+ years of management experience.
  • 5+ years of experience in accounting and/or financial analysis.
  • Strong leadership qualities and organizational skills.
  • Effective working relationships with team members across departments.
  • Attention to detail and ability to perform work accurately.
  • Self-motivated with strong work ethic and ability to prioritize tasks.
  • Knowledge of computer systems and software (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Ability to analyze financial data.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
