About the position

The Director of Operations and Strategic Initiatives (DOSI) at UConn Stamford Campus is responsible for overseeing daily operations, managing various services, and developing strategic initiatives to enhance campus efficiency and effectiveness. This role involves leadership within the Dean's Leadership Team, serving as a liaison with external partners, and ensuring support for students, staff, and faculty.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the Stamford Campus Operations unit to support student, staff, and faculty success initiatives.
  • Recruit, hire, train, supervise, and evaluate staff, prioritizing assignments according to organizational needs.
  • Provide strategic planning and oversight for Events & Conference Services, Welcome Center, and IT teams.
  • Develop and implement initiatives that support campus needs, such as the Stamford Card Access Program and Husky Harvest.
  • Communicate and enforce campus guidelines, policies, and procedures to improve efficiency.
  • Represent the Stamford campus on decision-making committees related to campus needs.
  • Build and maintain strategic relationships with external and internal partners.
  • Manage budget and finances for the operations department and assist with annual budget review.
  • Process student financial transactions for meal plan administration and other operations.
  • Develop and maintain a campus-wide communication strategy.
  • Execute strategic long-term space plans and manage minor renovation projects.
  • Review and support accommodation requests for faculty and staff.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and seven or more years of related experience in operations management or strategic management, or a Master's degree with five or more years of experience.
  • One year of experience overseeing large projects or in a supervisory capacity.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of multiple units within the higher education landscape.
  • Proven experience in strategizing, planning, and implementing complex projects in a higher education setting.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • 8-10 years of experience in a college or university environment with an operations component.
  • 5-8 years of experience supervising professional staff members.
  • Experience with executive-level projects and liaising with administration.
  • Knowledge of Event Management Systems (EMS), Genetec, and other Student Administration Systems.
