About the position

The Director of Operations for Buildings and Grounds is responsible for supervising the daily operations and maintenance requirements of the school district. This full-time, 12-month position oversees and coordinates the responsibilities of the Buildings and Grounds Staff, ensuring that all facilities are maintained to a high standard and that all operational projects are managed effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Directly supervise the daily operations and maintenance requirements of the school district.
  • Oversee and coordinate the responsibilities of the Buildings and Grounds Staff.
  • Plan for, review, and monitor all district operational and maintenance projects.
  • Maintain budget control for all operational and maintenance accounts.
  • Supervise the daily facilities operations of the district.
  • Ensure compliance with Right-To-Know and Asbestos Hazard Emergency Response Act.
  • Manage and supervise Buildings and Grounds staff.
  • Plan landscaping and grounds care.
  • Evaluate the performance of buildings and grounds staff.
  • Recommend agenda items for Board of Education approval.
  • Supervise improvement and renovation work performed by in-house personnel and outside contractors.
  • Assist with NJ State Department of Education monitoring of facilities.
  • Attend appropriate board committee and other meetings.
  • Oversee district snow removal operations.
  • Prepare and maintain the district's Long Range Facilities Plan.
  • Conduct periodic inspections and tests of all electrical, plumbing, and mechanical installations.
  • Ensure enforcement of fire/safety and environmental laws and regulations.
  • Coordinate all school activities and events, including external facility rentals.
  • Complete custodial reports, building condition reports, and other records as required.

Requirements

  • Current Certified Educational Facilities Manager License (CEFM).
  • College degree, engineering preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years experience in direct supervision of maintenance personnel.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of construction, maintenance of heating, ventilation, air conditioning, electrical, plumbing, and carpentry.
  • Extensive knowledge of building codes, state and federal OSHA, and environmental codes.
  • Experience in grounds care and maintenance.
  • Integrated Pest Management certificate.
  • Indoor Air Quality Certified.
  • Black Seal License.
