About the position

The Director of Quality is a pivotal role within our organization, responsible for overseeing and enhancing the quality management processes in the Aerospace/Aviation industry. This position requires a seasoned professional with a minimum of 10 years of experience in Quality Management, specifically within the Aerospace sector. The Director will be tasked with creating, measuring, communicating, and driving group performance to meet quality objectives while ensuring compliance with both contractual and regulatory requirements. A key aspect of this role is to maintain the organization’s ISO and AS9100 certifications, interfacing with third-party registrars to ensure ongoing compliance and improvement. In this role, the Director will lead the internal audit processes and corrective action systems, ensuring that the organization has a robust supplier quality assurance framework in place. The Director will also be responsible for interfacing with customers on quality issues, reducing the cost of poor quality, and fostering an environment where all employees take responsibility for quality. This position requires a strategic thinker who can identify and implement roadmaps for continuous improvement, providing expert guidance to senior staff and promoting a team-oriented environment. The Director of Quality will also be responsible for hiring, training, and mentoring employees, ensuring that the team is motivated and equipped to meet the organization’s quality goals. The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical skills, the ability to synthesize data to drive change, and a bias for action. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential, as is the ability to interface effectively with customers and stakeholders. This role demands a leader who can think strategically while acting tactically, motivating others to embrace the organization’s values and objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Create, measure, communicate, and drive group performance to meet quality and team objectives.
  • Ensure the organization maintains a robust internal audit and corrective action system.
  • Maintain a robust supplier quality assurance and corrective action system.
  • Oversee the maintenance of ISO and AS9100 Certification and assessment interface with third-party Registrar.
  • Interface with customers on quality issues.
  • Reduce the cost of poor quality.
  • Foster an environment in which all employees are responsible for quality.
  • Review and assure compliance with contractual and regulatory requirements.
  • Identify and implement road maps for continuous improvement.
  • Provide expert guidance to the Senior Staff.
  • Lead daily operations and ensure quality goals are met.
  • Maintain the highest ethical standards, even when challenged from above.
  • Promote a team environment and develop direct reports and teams through mentoring.
  • Responsible for hiring, training, motivation, and counseling of employees.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field.
  • 10+ years of experience in Quality Management in the Aerospace/Aviation Industry.
  • Must have AS9100 certification or experience.
  • 8+ years of experience with Quality Management Systems.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor's degree in science or other related degree or equivalent experience.
  • Prior Aerospace and/or Defense industry experience preferred.
  • Prior management experience.
  • 5+ years of focused quality work preferred.
  • In-depth knowledge of Quality Management Systems.
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to synthesize data and change outcomes.
  • Bias for action and self-motivated problem solver.
