Responsibilities

  • Promotes, coordinates and performs risk management activities within the Hospital.
  • Assists staff and employees in understanding the scope, objectives and procedures of the hospital.
  • Utilizes various reporting mechanisms for risk management.
  • Accesses all necessary and relevant hospital and medical staff data including committee minutes, medical records, and other hospital operating data.
  • Ensures appropriate and timely reporting of occurrences by maintaining a Healthcare Peer Review Reporting system.
  • Analyzes and trends data while identifying actual and potential risk situations.
  • Facilitates the determination of causative factors for risk situations.
  • Performs risk surveys and inspects patient care areas in concert with hospital's safety program committee objectives.
  • Receives and investigates reports of product problems to determine appropriate response.
  • Networks with department managers and medical staff to implement system changes aimed at reducing or eliminating causative factors.
  • Interfaces with the Patient Advocate specific to patient complaints and assesses/recommends action.
  • Assesses liability and probability of legal action and identifies practices having legal connotations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Social Sciences or related field.
  • Minimum of four (4) years' experience in quality and risk management within a psychiatric treatment facility.
  • Strong knowledge of Joint Commission, State of Alaska, CMS standards, and applicable federal and state laws and regulations.
