About the position

The Director of Planning and Design at Providence will lead the interior design initiatives within their market, managing relationships with consultants and vendors throughout the pre-planning and design phases of capital projects. This role is crucial for ensuring that projects are completed on schedule and within budget while adhering to Providence's architectural and design standards. The director will also oversee a team, coordinate with various stakeholders, and support strategic planning efforts to enhance the built environment in alignment with organizational goals.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the interior design initiatives in the assigned market.
  • Manage relationships with consultants and vendors for pre-planning and design phases.
  • Ensure projects stay on schedule and on budget, meeting deliverables.
  • Collaborate with Planning and Design leadership to confirm best practices in finishes and furnishings.
  • Support ongoing capital projects and feasibility studies with clinical leaders and strategy teams.
  • Manage furniture options for capital projects and assist caregivers with furniture needs.
  • Oversee inventory, storage, and redeployment of existing furniture and equipment.
  • Coordinate with the Facilities Construction team for small project planning and design.
  • Manage the pre-planning and design phases of all capital projects in the division.
  • Partner with strategic planning teams to achieve objectives involving the built environment.
  • Manage long-range market and site-specific master planning efforts.
  • Provide feedback to leadership regarding materials and furnishings performance.
  • Ensure adherence to architectural and design standards for projects.
  • Support the RFP process for planning and architectural contractors.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with authorities having jurisdiction.
  • Review architectural and design add services and scope change orders.
  • Manage presentation of design and program updates to Senior Leadership.
  • Develop and manage the Managers of Planning and Design in the market.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree in Architecture, Business, or Healthcare Administration; or equivalent education/experience.
  • Registered/licensed interior designer.
  • At least 10 years in healthcare-focused practice with experience in healthcare client demands.
  • 8 years of experience in architecture and design, with some in the healthcare industry.
  • 6 years of management or leadership experience.
  • 2 years of healthcare experience.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, leadership, and communication skills.
  • Creative problem-solving skills and ability to negotiate solutions.
  • Extensive organizational and communication skills for professional interactions.
  • Ability to work with senior leadership on complex planning issues.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Microsoft Project.
  • Knowledge of design and architecture firms and local jurisdiction authority.
