About the position

Huntington's Director, Portfolio Management will co-manage a book of business greater than $2.5 billion in commitments in the Bank's Power & Utilities vertical within Huntington's Corporate Specialty and Government Banking group. The Director, Portfolio Management services and, in conjunction with Relationship Management, deepens an assigned portfolio of clients by proactively identifying and evaluating opportunities and mitigating associated business risks, in accordance with Huntington policies, procedures, and guiding principles. This role is critical in ensuring that the bank's portfolio remains healthy and profitable while adhering to regulatory and internal standards. The Director will be responsible for underwriting and closing broadly syndicated, complex commercial loans, providing credit recommendations to the appropriate level of credit administration, and reviewing loan documentation in consultation with legal counsel. Additionally, the Director will manage risk on an ongoing basis by monitoring customer credit worthiness, adherence to loan terms, and general business conditions. This includes managing annual reviews and renewals, portfolio reviews, collateral exceptions, borrowing bases, delinquencies, and other reporting requirements. The role requires a proactive approach to optimizing customer relationships while collaborating with Relationship Managers, Treasury Management, Capital Markets, and other team members to ensure comprehensive service delivery. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in portfolio management, particularly within the Power & Utilities sector, and will have demonstrated success in structuring complex credits. The Director will also be expected to provide leadership and coaching to team members, ensuring skill development and effective feedback mechanisms are in place. Strong negotiation skills and proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel are essential for this role, along with excellent written and verbal communication skills. The position is exempt from overtime pay and offers a hybrid workplace environment, allowing for a blend of in-office and remote work.

Responsibilities

  • Underwrite and close broadly syndicated, complex commercial loans
  • Provide credit recommendations to the appropriate level of credit administration

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required
  • 7+ years of related portfolio management experience
  • 10 years of diversified banking experience including portfolio management experience and positions of increasing responsibility, with at least 5 years of expertise in the Power & Utilities space
  • Completion of formalized credit training program
  • Demonstrated success structuring complex credits; researching, judging and presenting information verbally and in writing; creating documentation to support the credit and minimize risk
  • Proven ability to manage workflow and deadlines, while effectively balancing competing priorities
  • Demonstrated leadership experience by providing coaching, skill development and feedback to team members
  • Proven negotiation skills
  • Proficiency using Microsoft Word and Excel and other software applications that are supportive of the loan underwriting process
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
