About the position

The Director of Business Planning & Analysis (BP&A) for Specialty Products at Marathon Petroleum Company is responsible for overseeing all financial planning and analysis related to commercial activities for various product lines, including Asphalt, Petrochemicals, and Natural Gas. This role involves analyzing operational and financial results, providing performance insights, and coordinating planning processes to align commercial operations with financial outlooks. The Director will collaborate with key partners across the organization and lead a high-performing team to drive financial outcomes and support strategic decision-making.

Responsibilities

  • Lead financial insights and analysis for Specialty Products, leveraging data to drive performance outcomes.
  • Provide detailed performance insights into Specialty Products P&Ls, identifying areas for improvement and value addition.
  • Oversee the preparation of P&L reporting tools and metrics reporting, analyzing business trends and variances.
  • Track operational and market indicators to connect current conditions with anticipated financial results.
  • Ensure accurate transfer pricing between Commercial and Refining organizations for reliable internal reporting.
  • Align physical and derivative financial impacts with the risk management team to enhance risk management effectiveness.
  • Support quarterly and annual external reporting, including earnings releases and call preparations.
  • Develop and implement digital tools to enhance financial planning and analysis efficiency.
  • Utilize advanced analytics and data visualization tools to communicate complex financial information clearly.
  • Assist with ad hoc requests from various departments, including variance analyses.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, or Engineering required; MBA, CPA, CFA, or Master's degree is beneficial.
  • Minimum 10 years of relevant industry experience with a strong record of career progression and leadership capability.
  • Detailed knowledge of refining, commercial, marketing, and trading activities is beneficial.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Suite is required.
  • Experience with Business Intelligence tools (Power BI, Tableau) and related databases (SQL, Access) is beneficial.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in financial analysis within the energy sector.
  • Familiarity with advanced analytics and data visualization tools.
